Vehicle Description
Some might argue that the 604 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque packed into the SL 65 AMG are too much power and thrust for a road car. They're wrong.
No, the SL 65 doesn't have too much power. After you drive the SL 65, every car will feel underpowered. And making other cars feel anemic is exactly the goal of a global horsepower race. So with the SL 65, Mercedes has removed a glove and slapped the face of the entire industry and issued a very big challenge in 2006. Even 9 years after it's introduction,there still are only a handful of cars that can see eye to eye with this tremendous output of the V12 power monster.
Admittedly, there are cars with more horsepower, and there are cars with better power-to-weight ratios. Two of them are the Ferrari and Lamborghini Aventador, but those sex kittens can't touch the torque offering of the SL 65, and more important, they aren't cars that can be used daily as easily as can the SL 65, which is no more difficult to drive every day as the half-as-expensive, half-as-powerful SL 550. There are a few things that make the SL 65 worth the extra $90,800 over an SL 550, one of which is the twin-turbo charged 6.0-liter V-12, a 467 cc larger version of the engine in the SL 600. Another is the defeated look on the faces of SL 550 owners when they read the SL 65 badge. Their day is shot. They'll probably just go home and kick the dog, because up until that moment they thought they were Brad Pitt.
Since the SL 65 has the full AMG treatment, it gets a more aggressive body kit that includes a front bumper with a wider mouth that accommodates larger inter coolers. There is also a rich, deep-throated free-flowing exhaust that actually sounds like a turbo charged V-12. Further tweaks add larger two-piece 19-inch wheels filled by 15.4-inch rotors clamped by enormous eight-piston calipers up front and 14.2-inch rotors with four-piston calipers doing the squeezing in back. These will stop the earth's rotation.Then there is the limited slip differential that improves cornering ability and increase exit speed , just in case that Latte is getting cold for your honey waiting at home! Let's not forget the standard for SL 65's tri mode transmission that can be auto comfort, auto sport and manual shift either by buttons on the steering wheel or flick of the shifter. You also get the Active body control that always keep the car level as well as selectable ride height in case you have that steep driveway that hungers for front spoiler.
The SL 65's Pizza size brakes have deep reserves that stop the 4494-pound roadster from 70 mph in 160 feet, the brakes give no hint of fade and inspire confidence when you kick the pedal at 145 mph. After all this was born on the autobahn.
This particular SL is a personalized version with full black out treatment. Brand new Michelin pilot sport tires are mounted, 4 wheel alignment as well as major service done. As in all SL 65, it is fully loaded with keyless go, Alcantara roof and instrument bezel, sports 4 tip exhaust, ventilated and massage seats,navigation, cd changer and blue tooth capable premium Bose sound system. No accident, certified mile, non smoker and title guaranteed. Original MSRP was $187000 and only 380 was made for 2006 and only a few made it to the States. of the entire run of SL 65 only 1300 were made, making this more exclusive than Ferrari's!
And if all that is not enough like our customer who just traded this in for the latest BMW i8, it also has RENNtech modification that massage this to a whooping 670 Hp and 840 Lbs of torque. This is done the right way by RENNtech who's founder Hermut Feyhl himself is regarded by many as the USA's foremost authority on Mercedes tuning. His vast experience comes from his 12 years spent at AMG well before the tuning company became part of Mercedes-Benz in 1999, then going onto serve as that company's North American technical director prior to branching out on his own to start RENNtech.
This car is a non smoker, non pet, fully serviced car. Recent service includes new struts and ABC pump and rear tires. It needs nothing and the engine sounds smooth as a hair dryer if you ever heard a 670 HP hair dryer, you would nod in agreement!
